Solaris for x86 may be a cute toy, but standardization of interface certainly isn't a motivation for Sun to bleed programmer salaries to maintain x86 Solaris 9. Not unless there was a sustainable market of anti-Linux commercial purchasers. Jul 05, 2018 · SunOS 5.6 was Solaris 6, 5.7 was Solaris 7, 5.8 was Solaris 8, 5.9 was Solaris 9, 5.10 was Solaris 10, and SunOS 5.11 is Solaris 11. Additonally, it wasn't until SunOS 5.x that SunOS 4.x was backwardly referred to as Solaris 1.x, but the versions were extremely inconsistent. Solaris/x86 does NOT support DOS directly in the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th primary partition of a disk. See BugID 1170107. Furthermore, Solaris/x86 does NOT support more than one Solaris fdisk partition on a physical disk nor more than 8 Solaris "slices" on a Solaris fdisk partition.
